Setting up IPTV on a Samsung or LG Smart TV is slightly different from Android TV devices — Tizen and webOS have their own app ecosystems. But both platforms have native IPTV apps that accept an Xtream Codes login, and there is always the option of plugging in a streaming stick for the fullest app selection. This guide covers both approaches and explains how a permanent Xtream URL turns it into a genuine one-time setup.
The two approaches to IPTV on a Smart TV
Samsung and LG Smart TVs run proprietary operating systems — Tizen and webOS respectively — which means they cannot run Android apps like TiviMate natively. You have two paths:
- Native Smart TV app: Install an IPTV app directly from the Samsung Smart Hub or LG Content Store. The most widely compatible option is Smart IPTV, available on both platforms.
- Streaming stick: Plug an Amazon Fire TV Stick or Android TV stick into an HDMI port. This gives you a full Android app ecosystem on any TV — including TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro, and Chillio — regardless of the TV's own operating system.
Both approaches use the same Xtream Codes login: a server URL, a username, and a password. The process is described in the how to add Xtream Codes guide for any player.
Option A: Native app — Smart IPTV on Samsung or LG
Smart IPTV is an IPTV player available in the Samsung Smart Hub and the LG Content Store. It supports both M3U and Xtream Codes (XC API) login and works well on most modern Samsung and LG models.
Installing and setting up Smart IPTV
- On your Samsung TV, press the Home button and go to Apps → Search. Search for Smart IPTV and install it. On an LG TV, go to the LG Content Store, search Smart IPTV, and install from there.
- Open Smart IPTV. On first launch it shows your TV's MAC address — note this if required by your app activation, but for Xtream Codes it is not needed.
- Navigate to the Settings or Add Playlist section. Look for an option labelled Xtream Codes, XC API, or Login with Xtream.
- Enter your Server URL, Username, and Password, then confirm.
- Smart IPTV loads your channel list. Live TV, movies, and series appear in separate sections. The TV guide (EPG) is fetched from the same URL automatically.
Other native app options
Availability of IPTV apps varies by TV model, firmware version, and region. Some other apps you may find in your TV's app store:
- SS IPTV (Samsung) — free, supports M3U and Xtream Codes on newer models.
- GSE Smart IPTV — available on some Samsung and LG stores, strong Xtream Codes support.
- IPTV Smarters — some versions appear in Smart TV stores depending on region.
If an app you want is not available in your region's store, or your TV model is older, the streaming stick route below solves the problem completely.
Option B: Streaming stick — the universal solution
Plugging a Fire TV Stick or Android TV stick into a spare HDMI port on your Smart TV gives you full access to the Android/Fire OS app ecosystem. This means you can run the full-featured players that are not available natively on Smart TVs:
- TiviMate — the most feature-rich IPTV player for Fire TV and Android TV, with a polished guide layout and catchup support.
- IPTV Smarters Pro — available in the Amazon Appstore, no sideloading needed on Firestick.
- Chillio — a notably clean and user-friendly IPTV player, excellent for households that want simplicity.
The streaming stick uses its own Wi-Fi connection and operates completely independently of the Smart TV's OS. Setup is covered step by step in the IPTV on Firestick guide.
Sophie sets up IPTV on her 2022 Samsung QLED — and her 2016 Panasonic in the bedroom
Sophie's 2022 Samsung has Smart IPTV in its app store. She installs it, enters the permanent Xtream URL from her iptv.domains dashboard, and channels load in a couple of minutes. For the older Panasonic in the bedroom — which has no compatible IPTV app at all — she plugs in a Fire TV Stick and installs IPTV Smarters Pro from the Appstore. Both TVs use the exact same URL, username, and password. When Sophie later reorganises her channel lineup using iptv.domains' playlist editor, both TVs automatically show the updated lineup on their next refresh.
Why a permanent Xtream URL matters on a Smart TV
Smart TV IPTV apps store credentials locally on the TV. When an IPTV service migrates to a new server or resets credentials, you have to go back into the app settings, find the right screen, and re-enter everything. On a Smart TV with a remote control, that is slow and fiddly.
With a permanent Xtream URL from iptv.domains, your URL, username, and password are fixed permanently. Provider changes happen in your iptv.domains dashboard — your Smart TV (or streaming stick) keeps its saved credentials and keeps working without being touched.
Troubleshooting IPTV on a Smart TV
- App not in the app store: Try searching for alternative names (e.g. "SS IPTV", "GSE IPTV"). If nothing works, use a Fire TV Stick or Android TV stick instead.
- Xtream Codes login option not visible: Some older app versions only show M3U input. Update the app to the latest version, or use your iptv.domains M3U URL instead — it provides the same channels and EPG.
- Channels load but playback buffers: Check that your Smart TV is connected via Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi if possible. Wi-Fi interference is the most common cause of Smart TV streaming issues.
- EPG not working: See the EPG not working guide for Smart TV-specific fixes, including forcing a manual guide update.
